Questions regarding my winter engine projects.
Hey folks.
I'm trying to plan out my winter projects now, and I wanted to get your opinions regarding how to do this as I don't have too much knowledge on the subject as of yet.
This is what I have.
87 Camaro, originally 2.8l V6, now a carbed 350 and a TH350 tranny.
Block, cam, heads are all original (pre-86 engine)
Mods it came with -
Performer RPM Intake
Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb
MSD Ignition
Hooker Headers
No Cat (came this way)
single pipe to muffler, then dual exhaust out
Car has no computer or even a fuse block under the hood. Also, no AC/Heater gear (although the hole is still there in the firewall, which I need to have patched up so I'll quit feeling engine heat in the cabin)
What I'd like this car to be is a street/strip application, more emphasis on strip (will only see street on Wednesdays for the local weekly car show, weather permitting of course) although the nearest strip is about 30 miles away and it would be driven there.
I'm shooting for low 12's eventually, although at this point I want it running well.
My 2 projects I have planned are a Cylinder head swap from the old smogger heads, and if time/$$$ permitting, a cam swap.
now the questions -
I'm looking at Edelbrock performer cylinder heads to match up with the intake (summit part #EDL -60909 What are your suggestions for Valves, springs etc?
As for a cam, even though i've read TONS of camshaft literature, I'm at a loss as to which cam I want to go for. Right now the car has a lot of low end grunt, but high end feels very lacking (and I know this is in part due to the restrictive heads) Going off of my intentions for the car listed above, what cams do you guys recommend?
I have fundage to cover the cylinder head swap, and I may have around 1 grand for the cam swap too, but please keep it realistic here. If I had unlimited funds, I'd have a helluva car, but hardly anybody is that lucky
