new manifold symptoms
as you know ive been trying to set up my distributor so i can get my car running after installing a new intake manifold. well anyways i finally got it to start (thanks to all who helped) and it ran really rough, i let it run for a while and it sorta mellowed out, still runs a little rough, but then again the car hadnt been started for more then 13 days. well i noticed a little bit of smoke coming from my passenger side valve cover. when i rev it up, it has a little bit of a miss. are these things that will work thereselves out with time, or am i still way off of getting the car to run well? when i tried to time it, i couldnt see my timing mark. any suggestions?

Im not sute on the mist. If its comming from the side of a valve cover the gasket might not be sealed and the oil is burining on the exh manifold.
A good trick to timing and engine when a timing tab cannot be seen or isnt there is to hook up a vac guage to the mainifold. Advance the timing until the vaccume reaches its peak and then back it off two inches of vac.
This usualy gets it right.

85 Camaro, 355/400 "drag car" in moth ***** 13.1@ 101mph on its last season run.
Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firebird, 305/350 currently moth balled.
Current plans: Rebuild 305 with flat tops instead of the dished "cups" for pistons or slightly built 327 with the 58cc heads from the LG4, Upgrade the 2:73 to 3:73 or 3:42 and replace the turbo 350 with 700r4.

well after examining my wiring situation i noticed that i had my spark plug wires misrouted. after i correctly routed them, everything was fine, but my temperature gauge is pegged. for some reason, ever since i put the manifold back on, the temperature gauge has been pegged. hey 8mike9, whats your email address?

Check the plug in connection on the drivers sdie head, between the #1 and #3 spark plug...this sensor is for the temp gauge.
I don't remember off hand if a shorted wire to ground pegs the gauge, or an open wire (off the connector) pegs the gauge.
I assume you mean the temp gauge pegs as soon as you fire the engine up? Not a slow crawl?
