Carbed 350, 60 over, heads, intake, turbo 350 trans, 12.1 CR...

This is just a short list of the mods done to an otherwise obliterated Trans Am... it's got T-tops, but has been sitting for 3 years... it's got a carbed 350, cam, 60 over block, 12.1 to 1 pistons, 4.50 something rear out back... turbo 350 trans with a manual valve body and a hurst quarter stick shifter... racing rims and tires, as well a ripped apart interior for a rollcage... the car never got finished because the guy bought a house...

Like I said, it's been sitting for 3 years, the guy is asking $1200, I'm not worried about it going anywhere, but I wanted to ask you if it's worth it... The guy said it ran 12.2 in the quarter without the rear and trans before he put it out to dry. He said the battery is dead, but it runs...

So, is it worth the $1200 to buy it, and the cost of finishing the rollcage and putting the interior back together, as well as the cost of getting 3 years of kinks out of the drivetrain and suspention?

I won't have the money until next summer, and I'm totally not worried about it going anywhere, but keep in mind that it's got another winter to go through...

This would be strickly a race fun car, obviously not streetable. My toy thirdgen...

One other question, do stip cars need to be insured?

Thanks for your time!

With 12.1:1 CR, I bet you don't just rumble up to the nearest gas station and fill it up. It's not a bad price if you have the extra space for a car that will sit at your house 99% of the time too. I would consider it if I had the extra space. And if you want to drive it on the road... it needs insurance. If you just trailor it to the track, then only if you want to insure it if you run into the wall.

Biochem, I was thinking the same about the compression ratio... And as far as driving it on the street, there is no way it'd be legal.

It'd be a helluva car, and it's certainly jacked up LAM, and is certainly worth the 1200 to pay for an 11 second car. I gave it some serious consideration and I think it's going to be too much for me. I want a fast street car, I don't want my speed to be limited to the track.

So, if anyone is interested, I'll give you the contact information. The guys name is Tony Altieri, and he is the manager of the Napa AutoCare center at 912 Route 9, Bayville NJ. It's 5 minutes away from Toms River, in Ocean County... The number for the shop that he works at is (732)269-9893, and the fax is (732)269-6789. Just ask for him I guess.

If anyone calls and hasn't seen it, I assure you the car itself is in total beater shape, the exterior is white with t-tops, and has been sitting for 3 years under a tree. I did the guy a favor and picked branches off of it when I went and looked. The windows have some kinda dried up goop on them, probably mold, and the white isn't -as- white (granted it's a thirdgen, and is at least 14 years old, I'm guessing it's an 85-87). There is a -tiny- dent in the front drivers side, but is otherwise straight. The interior was ripped apart for a rollcage that never got finished, but it's all there (except back seats, didn't see them in there, not like they matter). It's got guages, at least RPM, and others, but I couldn't tell what they were... Nothing apears to be growing inside, and I didn't see any mold, so that may say something about the weatherstripping... he said it ran 12.2 in the quarter without the rear, trans and on street tires, so I assume it's an 11 second car. He quoted me 1200 when I asked.

Thats about it... You mods can lock it now if you like, if anyone wants more info, just drop me an e-mail.

In an attempt to keep this tech... Assume he kept the original crank ( I coudn't make out half the things he listed, he is a mumbler), what would boring it .060 over boring the CI to?
