smoking on startup
smoking on startup
hey i just got done doing an a/c and smog pump removal on my firebird and i also removed the heater core while i was at it i plugged the holes in the manifolds no whenn i start it up it smokes looks like its possibly comming from the manifolds anybody have this problem when they did this to their cars? or any ideas of what might be going on thanks.

Hello,
You shouldn't just plug the holes in the manifolds to eliminate the heater core. The right rear head coolant exit should be connected to the radiator hose nipple to maintain coolant flow from the head, or you could create a hot spot in the head, resulting in detonation and/or cylinder damage. At the least, you should pipe/hose it back to the plugged port on the water pump.

i plugged the holes in the exhust manifolds where the air pipes use to go all i did to the heater core was take the hoses off of it along with the valve that turns it on and off i did plug one hose the comes out of the intake manifold but thats it

Its very normal for your headers to smoke after you do something to/near them. It just burning off the oil from your hands. If it is a lot of smoke, see if it smells sweet and check for a coolant leak on the header. The heater valve could leak.
