Primer on How the Air Tubes Function
Can anyone give me the basics?

Basically they inject air into the exhaust on startup to help heat up the catalytic converter quicker and extend its life. When you dont have a cat anymore the airtubes just take up space. That's why mine are long gone

On cold starts and in open loop, air is diverted to the exhaust manifolds to lean the richer startup mixture gases, to keep the cat from working hard and to reduce emissions. I'd guess this also could help from fouling the O2 sensor as well?, once in closed loop, air is diverted to the cat to aid in the catalytic reaction.
