Low oil pressure under heavy acceleration

I have a situation that came to my attention while out this afternoon in my Camaro. Under heavy acceleration, I noticed that my oil pressure had dropped to around 20 PSI. When I got out of it, the pressure returned to normal. It usually idles around 40 PSI, and holds around 50-55 under normal driving. The gauge is a mechanical Autometer, so I doubt that that is the problem. Thanks in advance.

Almost forgot to say, the car runs really really strong, so I'm not thinking it to be anything engine related.

Anyone? I was thinking that maybe under heavy accelleration that the oil pickup tube may not be getting sufficient oil. Or possibly the oil pump?

Add an extra quart of oil to the oil already in the pan.

See if it helped or...

Change the oil filter. See if that cures it.
