Emissions elimination

On my 1984 Z-28 305 4 barrel carb, the emission system is plugged at all the ports. pcv valve is not connected, EGR is not connected and most vacume ports on the carb is blocked. First of all why would somebody do this? second will it hurt it? Third can I remove everything and block it all of? Thanks for the input.

people do that because it will give them better performance. With no egr, you will get a better air/fuel mixture performance wise.

People try to eliminate emissions stuff to try to gain back the horsepower that's lost on them. However the hp loss is usually so low that it's pointless to do so. For instance, how much HP do you think the PCV valve could possibly rob?

Also, sometimes if a person modifies an engine to make it not emissions legal (a very radical cam, for example) it's pointless to have the other components so they go ahead and remove them.

At least run a PCV system.

------------------
350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...
