oooook, i feel like learnin something, on the snorkel to the filter housing, theres alittle round thingy that looks like a sensor or something on top of the snorkel, what is it? and then under that on the bottom of the snorkel, theres a hose thingy, looks like a dryer hose, that runs to the motor, what does the hose actually run to? makes me think it has something to do with the oil....im confused

That is the thermac valve... when the car is cold, theres a vacuum in the line going to that circular thing causing it to suck air up through that dryer like hose. Its air thats circulating the exhaust manifolds and is usually warmer than the outside air. This warms the engine up faster for reduced emissions.

if I were you I'd ditch that air cleaner in favor of an open element. Gain a few horses, ease of removal, and I'm sure there's other benefits. It also looks a lot better sitting on top of the engine.
