Brand new to the forum, need help on my 89 formula...
I bought the red dragon last year, a 1989 firebird formula, with a 'rebuilt' engine. I dont' know a whole lot about it, but i know that it is now carbuerated with a two barrel. It's still a 305. But i have recently had a problem with the cooling fan, it won't turn off. I think the problem was when my brother was showing off my car he started it up and revved it right away, without letting it get running or anything. The fan thinks the engine is always hot so the fan won't turn off. THat's at least what i've figured out. My friends tell me i need to change the thermostat or something, but i'm not sure what i'm doing. Does anyone have a diagnosis for this problem and how to fix it? Hopefully on my own.
Thanks

I think the only fan control on you 89 (as original) is controlled with the fanswitch in the pass side head, below and between #6 and #8 sparkplugs.
The Fanswitch grounds the relay to turn on the fan.
Disconnect the wire connector on the fanswitch, if the fan goes off, most likely issue is the fanswitch itself, if not...
If it's like the 91RS I have, fan relay is the far right one on the firewall, right of the brakebooster.
Probe the Green/wht wire to ground, if zero ohms/low ohms, then disconnect the wire connector on the fanswitch, reprobe again, if still low/zero, there's a short in the wire to ground, if open/high resitance, then the Fanswitch is probably shorted...test the end of the FS to ground...
Again, this assumes it's like my 91
