Gas pump in tank, gas pump outta tank, two pumps??
Alright so the pump is in the gas tank. We know this to be fact. I don't want to drop that tank. Can I put a pump outside of the tank, and kill the power to the one inside the tank?
Sorry If I totally lost you. Anyoen get what I'm asking here?

you would have to sump the stock tank
all the pumps you mount outside the tank are just puller type pumps, they rely on gravity to feed them
in tank pumps are both pushers/pullers....they do both
so you could use two, but the in tank has to be working well for the in line to work
