Persistant code 36

Since getting the GTA on the road on Friday (finally. ), I had a code 34 and code 36. I had a spare Burnoff relay hanging around (doesn't everybody?) so I changed it. That cleared up my code 34, but my code 36 is still present.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the burnoff relay the closest to the passenger side of the three relays in that bunch? Everybody that posted relay locations seems to have a different configuration. I've got 2 oval relays and 1 square one. My understanding that the one square one (which is the one closest to the motor) is the burnoff relay, and the two oval ones are the MAF relay and the fuel pump relay. Willie's discription of wire colors also correlated with my assumption of the burnoff relay location, but I just find it odd that changing the burnoff relay made my code 34 disappear but not the 36.

Anyway, after changing what I think is the burnoff relay, the code 34 disappeared, but the code 36 is still present. In reading the archives I've found that an old battery can cause this. My battery is showing 12.46 volts, which seems to be pretty good to me. I am experiencing very hard starts though, so I'm planning to swap batteries to see what happens. Does anybody else have any other wisdom to impart? Maybe help clarify relay locations for me?

Jim, on my '89 IROC, from left to right is the FP relay, MAF power, then Burnoff.

My FP relay has a yellow holder on it, both MAF's look the same...and as I recall, have the same service nuimber on them.

As you mentioned, best thing is to verify via wiring, I had a friend come by a few months ago, and his '89 IROC had the power and BO relays opposite of mine.
