smashing a lock cylinder out?
I just got a 1989 grand prix se with tilt. The guy i got it off of does not have the ign key.I removed everything until i reach the tilt steering mechanism that is held on by these weird bolts they look like torx screws but have a thread inside ,i can figure out how to get them out The hayes manual says take the car to GM because a special tool is needed. Can I just smash the **** out of the ign lock?
You don't need to get as far as the tilt mechanism to remove the lock cylinder - On either the old or newer style columns.

Once you have the turn signal switch exposed, you can carefully remove the key buzzer contact assembly, remove the cylinder locking screw (Torx), then slide the lock cylinder out.

It's that easy.
