Custom Ram Air...need a part...help!

Ah, I decided to ditch my open element and go for this custom ram air idea I have (well, it's widely used)...I need an L69 dual snorkel air cleaner setup w/ my K & N filter...then I'm going to use AC ducting to route two tubes to either of my high beams, which I don't use (100 watt xenons are more than enough) and customize the bulb housings to open them up and put a thin screen in front to prevent debris from flying in. A good cold/ram air effect, eh? Anyways, I saw some guy in the last Car Craft (Has 10 Engine Blocks to buy on the cover) had a Chevelle with the high beam delete idea, but he had what looked like a normal open element with some sort of plastic thing around it...it looked too good to be custom, I wanted to know if anyone knows what I'm talking about and/or if it's an actual product I can buy...looks like it's almost a "custom" dual snorkel thing...

I'm not sure if you've ever heard of www.ramairbox.com but they make dual snorkle air cleaners along with the intakes and tubes. It's too bad a kit cost about $150-250!

I rarly use my high beams either, if I need extra lights I use my aftermarket fog lamps that are in the stock location. I say go for it and don't forget to give us pics.

Hot Rod Magazine had an article a few years back on how to create a custom ram air intake that you describe... It involved some aluminum sheets and some snips. Also some air ducting and excetera. It's looked very after-market, yet wasn't... it was very trick and nice.

I'd offer to scan it in for you but I'm not too sure I still have it, it's going to take some digging around to find it. I'll keep you posted.

It went something like this... you use and open element air cleaner (I think they used 3 inch tall) (with KNN obviously) and then go to a metal store and try to find a circular to rectangular connector. Make sure one end of the rectangle measures 3in and then buy 2... snip the aluminum away to get the rectangular part under the cover, and then bent aluminum sheeting around the rest of the air cleaner to seal it off...then run the ducting wherever you want it...

They went a step further. they used a performance base, and then got a sheet of aluminum and cut it to be a circle and used it as the top, bent another piece of Al and sealed off the sides, fabbed the rectangle to circle pieces, ran the lines, and made a ram air that way... they used rivits to hold the top to the Al sheeting, and rectangular thingies...

Like I said it look really good, and really trick, yet was custom. If you didn't understand a word I said, I don't blame you, I didn't really know how to explain it... I'll keep and eye out for that HRM issue...

They sell L69 intake snorkels for 17 bucks...is that the complete thing? They sell two, though:

GM intake snorkel for 84-85 L-69 HO Z-28/Trans Am, R/H

And a L/H..what's the difference? I can just save cash and get the L69 set up...

L/H = Left hand side
R/H = Right hand side

I'm not sure where these intake their air from. I'm guessing under the car, in front of the radiator (by fog lamps), or on top of radiator.

I was thinking of buying their intakes and then using sheet metal to flow it to my air cleaner. I might be able to steal the ugly 14" dual snorkle aircleaner of my dad's '79 Z, paint it, and make that work with my Edelbrock top and K&N filter. I understood what you were saying Xeno and like the rivit idea. If you could get some pics that would be great.
