010 castings just tell me that it's a common and normally a very good 4" bore block (302, 327, 350). The casting was used on just about everything. You need the suffix code to find what it was originally in. The suffix code is stamped on the pad in front of the passenger head. It's usually hard to read. If the block has ever been decked, the suffix code will be gone.

Chances are it's a 350 (5.7L). If it was originally out of a truck, it's probably a 4 bolt main.

My 3970010 block is a 350 4-bolt non-roller. All 010 blocks were non-roller and 2pc RMS. I believe the 010 blocks were the strong 'high-nickel' castings.

Ya ive tried to look for the suffix code but it doesnt have one. ad just last night i found the block code. i buaght the car from this old man he siad he pulled it from a 1977 Z28 and that it was a 350 5.7L im pretty sure thats what it is but i dont know for sure. the whol engine is like a dark baby blue colour nd its definatly original becuase the paint is super old ive never sen any cheyv 350's that are blue theyre all red or orange does that tell me anything?

They were blue from the mid-70s until the early 80s.

Sounds like it's still original. The suffix code should be still on the block. Get in with a scraper and wire brush to remove dirt/grime/paint until the numbers appear.

The 010 casting won't be a 305. It's unlikely to be a 302 or 327 with a blue block so that means it's going to be a 350.
