Engine codes
I just picked up an engine that is supposed to be from a 87 camaro and I was wondering if anyone could help me find out what it came out of. The casting numbers are as follows:
GM 5.0LG and SGI on the drivers side/left
14093627 on the right
The heads are cast with 14101081 and K187
Any help will be greatly appreciated as it will be going in my 88

Without the suffix code, you won't know exactly what the engine came out of but it probably is from a 1987 just from the casting number. The suffix code is stamped on the pad on the block in front of the passenger head.
Heads are 87-95 305 castings.

The suffix codes are stamped on the actual block deck surface where the heads bolt on. Find the passenger side head, then find where the front of it meets the block. The suffix code is right there.
Now its possible that the engine has been rebuilt and the codes are gone. In that case it doesn't matter where it came from its not stock any more.
