Oops... Need info on replacing oil pan.

My girlfriend bottomed out the car on a speedbump. Im wanting to see if anyone can give me hints and tips on replaceing it. Im thinking the motor needs to come up a bit. And i think im going to get a new pan, so what do i need to do to get a good seal to the motor? Please help. Anything would be good. Thanx in advance.

yep the engine has to come out or at least be raised. i'd spend the extra for a oe piece oil pan gasket. they come with some handy little instaltion studs to hold the gasket in place while you slide the pan over t hem. if you're working over head i'd use hightack on the block to hold the gasket in place and maybe some ultragrey permatex rtv o nthe pan. make sure you flatten out the dimpples in the pan where the bolt holes are.

Just did this on a 91. It was a bitch getting the eng. high enough. I had it up on the bellhousing bolts at the firewall and still had to use a prybar under the drivers side motor mount for the final inch or so. I'd much rather pull the eng. Anyway the stock oil pan gasket is a one piece so just get that and apply a small amount of rtv at the corners where it touchs the front cover and you will be good to go. I'd also check the oil pump screen while the pan is off and depending on the miles poss a new pump. The pumps are very cheap and eazy to install. Good luck!
