pulley

This is probably going to sound like a really dumb post. My son has a 1991 Pontiac Firebird with a V6 3.1 L engine. One of the pulleys has froze up and stopped. Not being mechanicaly inclined, we do not know what it goes to. On the front of the engine, on the passener side, you have the alternator. Just BELOW the alternator, is ANOTHER pulley. This pulley( the one before the alternator) is the one that has froze up. What is this pulley connected to? Does anyone have any clues?
Thx.

Not sure why the alternator is on the passenger side, but I'm going to guess the pully that froze is the air pump, as that is usually the first one to crap out. I bet they are pretty inexpensive at pep boys or whatever, and there should be no more than three bolts, probably two! Easy repair, good luck!

Air Pump

Thx Matt,
My son in law looked in the Haynes book, and according to the pictures "thought" it was the air pump but we weren't sure. Yeah, the alternator is on the passenger side.
thx again
