Engine work....
I have now decided i want to remove all my emissions from my car, smog pump, exhaust manifolds etc...and even swap out my carb with an edelbrock carb with electric choke. i just have some wuestions though, first what all is involved in this project? 2nd, how can i get the carb running right if i unplug the mixture wiring and what not as well from the stock carb? will i need to remove the computer? any help is appreciated, thanx all in advance

Well first,
You didnt put any info down on your car.
So lets start there..
What engine do you currently have??
LG4 305? or 350 with a Computer-controlled Q-jet??
If you dont want to run a computer controlled carb, then dont.
what you do need is the carbuerator of your choice with a new
distributor, one which is run off vacuum to advance the timing,
not a computer controlled one like you are currently using.
then, if you wish .. can pull the ECU out of the car, or leave it
where it is to collect dust..
but first,
why do you want to rip off the emissions components anyway??
why do you want scrap the existing carbuerator?
Are you taking the car off the road??
You can still get the car to perform with all that junk on there,
it just wont look pretty

Along those lines, everything emmision wise on my car has been junked, and i fitted an Edelbrock carb and manifold.
Although cars are my job, it was the first time i had done one.
And its not hard, everything was just a straight swap.
I took my car to a friends garage and adjusted the mixture screws on the carb till the CO was within our MOT limits [ie under 3.50 for pre 85 cars] and the Lamda was set to about 1.00, even a garage wouldnt charge you much to set it up.
Mainly my emmision gear missing because someone had already removed the Cat, and a few smaller bits.
Cats appeared on cars here in bulk about 1991, and are only testable items after that year, so if you dont want it, its easier to make an exhaust i bet.
.
My last problem is the same, where can i get a reasonably priced vacumn dizzy that would more or less just plug straight in to a 305?
Does it exist, or is there some wiring involved?
Sorry to hi-jack this slightly, but it is related.

Yeah sorry about that, my car is the 305 carb engine. i was just trying to get the engine bay cleaned up and looking nice, and the emissions are not required where i am so i figured mine as well get rid of them. in time i want to install an new edelbrock intake, headers, etc, to dress up/ make the engine look as good as the car it self 1 day. thats y i want to take all that stuff out. if i remove the ecu what all is involved with that? or can i just unplug it and leave it where it is and just do the carb/distributor swap to get it running right?
