Oil pump shaft question

quick question. the shaft on my old pump is still attatched to the pump. somewhat loose but doesnt slide out. my new aftermarket one just slides on and doesnt stay on there. guessing this is normal and once the distributor is in place the shaft will be held on?

yea i meant there is nothing holding the shaft to the pump. the sleeve itself is tight on the shaft. i just wanted to be sure the new shaft wasnt supposed to stay on the pump like on the stock one.
