Back spacing on IROC wheels

To the moderator - if this doesn't belong here, feel free to move it.

I have an 88 IROC with the optional 16" wheels. The wheels are matched to the end of the car (front and rear). What is the backspacing on the front and rear wheels for this car?

I am going to a "parts-a-rama" and would like to get one or two sets of extra rims (one set for racing and a second for winter).

I want to make sure that I can use what I buy...

Thanks.

If you are getting some more 16 inch wheels for extra's, just get 2 fronts and 2 rears. Most all the 15x6 or 7 stock GM wheels will fit that have the 5x 4.75 bolt pattern(cutlass, regal, monte carlo, S10, camaro etc...). If you go with an 8 inch wide wheel, I would use the front wheel backspace measurement on your Iroc wheels--not convenient for me to measure right now so I don't know what it is. I'm sure somebody on this board knows--if not just measure it yourself.

Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

Maybe I can learn something here.

I do want to buy exact replacements (in terms of size) so I'm looking for 16x8" wheel.

How would I measure the backspacing myself?

Remove a wheel. Flip it upside down. Lay a straight piece of something across the wheel(rim to rim, not on the tire). Measure from the center part of the wheel to the bottom of the straight edge.

Thanks. Sounds like I should just do this myself. I should get some time to do this tomorrow evening... I'll report back.

Just to report back:

Hand measuring yield the following approximate numbers:

Front: 4.25" backspace
Rear: 4.75" backspace

According to http://www.skulte.com/adapterfaq.html the measurements should have been:

Front: 4.35"
Rear 5.00"

Good article.

There is quite a bit of confusion regarding backspacing and offsets. This article cleared it up for me.
