Temp Gauge goign loo loo

The subject says it all. I turned on my car and my Temp gauge spiked up and got stuck and wont come down. So I took off the faceplate and took alook. The needle was stuck on the edge of the gauge. So I put it back down and started it up..and it was fine for about 2 days....then I started the car and BANG stuck again. Very very frustrating. Any one know why it is gettin stuck? Is it broken or something? And if it is broken where can I get a new one pretty cheap for an 89 camaro. Thanks

Hmm, the sensor could possibly be going bad and not the guage. I would check the engine temp. sensor (I think thats the name of it) and see if its getting any voltage to it. My post isn't much help since I don't know what the voltage should be at the sensor and I don't know where its at but I would check that first before u go and replace the guage. Just a thought.

Oh and if it is the guage then I bet classic Industries might have it for relatively cheaper than the dealership. On their website they have a number I think.

Make sure the connector did not fall off of the sensor. Mine fell on header and instantly spiked up and eventually ignited. Not good. The sensor is on the drivers side head between #1 and #3 cylinders.

Its because when the sensor first gets power, it shoots up and the only thing that stops it is the side of the guage. You need to cut off part of it and bend it so that the needle can't get stuck.

edit.
Let me make that more clear, cut off part of the sheet metal on the side of the guage where the needle gets stuck, don't cut the needle.

The needle gets stuck on the edge of the guage, thumping it with your index finger usually gets down. Mine was doing the same thing so I got a used one on Ebay. Go to Ebay motors and enter cars, parts & acessories and enter 82-92 camaro in the search box, bingo parts galore. Bending the needle carefully sometimes does the trick, also tightening the face plate to tight can cause the problem. Hope this helps.
