Vacuum advance or not?!?!

I have a Demon 750 DP carb on my Z which is also a 4 speed car.Do you recommend I run a vacuum advance distributor or a non vacuum(just mechanical)advance distributor?Pro's and Con's of each?Car is mainly street strip toy,not daily driven.Rpm range is 2,000-6,000,3.73 gears,3300 lbs with me in it.TIA

I'm no expert on distributors sorry, but by mechanical advance does that refer to computer control. If so then you'll need a vacuum advance one since you don't have a CC carburetor.

No,mechanical advance doesn't refer to computer control.Computer controlled distributors have no advance mechanism whatsoever, they are controlled and advanced only by and through the ECM.I have a vacuum advance on my car,I was wondering which was better for it.I did a search in the tech section and got my answer from Damon Nickles HEI Performance article(should have looked there first). Thanks for the reply though, much appreciation.Like the rice burner analogy..nice!

I run my 383 daily with a 13 degrees initial, and a 34 total. Yet I am running 10.7 compression also, so chances are you can get more out of yours. You will loose some gas mileage, and some slight partial throttle response, but for what you want, you should be fine.

It kind of depends on several things. No, it is not required but it makes it easier to drive when cold and at light throttle openings. If the cam has lots of duration, it will like a little vacuum advance. But if you have high compression, it probably won't stand it without rattling on 92 octane. Whats it drive like at light throttle openings?

If its not your daily d, i would play with the mechanical curve to make up for no vacuum. Just make the curve as fast as you can without detonation and it will just about be the same in the long run. Especially with a decient gear like a 3.73.
