Possible to make power to 7000RPM with fuel injection?
And I mean real fuel injection, not some TBI knock off. I was thinking of building a 377 fed with a Mini Ram, big cam, AFR 195s, big exhaust and such. Would it be possible, with porting the MR to get it to pull to 7000+ RPM? And I am NOT considering getting a carbed POS engine, so please don't suggest it.

The main issue is preventing frictional losses from exceeding the HP benefits that higher rpm provides. Normally this requires something other than standard strokes. Winston cup motors use 400 bore diameter and 327 strokes to make 355 cubes.
The other issue is how you going to meter fuel. The factory ECM for LT1 has no fuel maps above 7000 rpm. A dfi is required.

A Miniram should have no problem supporting 7,000 rpm since it is an "untuned" intake like a typical carb intake manifold. You will need to consider an aftermarket ECM such as DFI, as neither MAF or SD have fuel correction tables that exceed 6,400 rpm. Just make sure that the DFI unit is capable of high rpms.
Alternatively, if you got into the Source Code of the SD ECM, you might be able to expand the VE and PE Fuel tables to provide correction at that level. But this level of change is beyond most custom prom writers. Most just use the stock GM eproms as a "base" and only change the table entires...which are limited to 6,400 rpm. So with the stock ecm, even with a custom prom, you'll be flying blind after 6,400 rpm.

I mean reduce the weight of the stock Fbody if it's a standardly equiped T/A or Z28. These cars are freggin' HEAVY! To continually make power till 7 grand he's going to have to give up some low rpm power, period. If the car is too heavy the engine may laugh at the task of moving it if given even just slightly too much air, in the form of bogs or stalling. Doesn't happen with EFI motors? LOL the IAC valve doesn't adjust that quickly.
Altight, thanks guys. Where do I buy a DFI and what does it cost? Also, what are some things I can do to lower the weight? I do plan on having my 377 be an aluminum long block.

The rotory motors could rev even higher than that I think. Don't help but it has been done from factory.

Actually, unless you really need that aluminum block, I think an iron block would be better. Iron provides much better sealing power... unless you like doing head gasket jobs?
As far as reducing the weight, a lot of guys if they absolutely NEED an Fbody will strip it of interior peices, and options to reduce the weight. I don't agree however. I rather drive a car that's lighter because the overall construction is lighter than to drive a stripped down car.
From a post I started earlier, I guess the Nova is the big ticket for me... others felt S10's of Vega's would work well. Unfortunately, remember if powertrains produce the same amount of power, the lighter car will be faster... why give yourself a handicap is how I look at it. Ford's motors are crap, their interiors suck, but their cars are lighter... ultimately, that will make them faster given the same *OVERALL* (not peak) power output.

In order to drop some weight a big help is the tubular K-member. You can also convert to manual steering from an S-10. There is all this nice heavy insulation under the rug of the car that can come out as well. How big are you into music cause those speakers and radio are weight also. I'd move the batter to the back of the car to have better weight distribution. Windshield washer resevior....who needs windshield washers anyway. Fiberglass is always good. You can get fiberglass hoods and fenders and front clip. I think doors are also available but i wouldn't recommend unless you have a cage in the car cause some a$$hole might t-bone you or something and you'd be in trouble.
Yeah, I already have pulled out some un-necessary stuff from my car. Like the all the AC crap and the windshield washer fluid tank. I really don't want to strip the car down, I like having some convienence features there. I would like to get a fiberglass hood, aluminum radiator and get rid of the big amps and speakers in the back of the car and replace them with some regular 6 x 9s. Anyway, thanks again!
