Sometimes the GTA starts VERY VERY hard
Sometimes the GTA will start immediately when it's cold. Sometimes it'll crank for ages until it just barely starts, chugs for a few seconds, then slowly comes to life. I thought it was the coolant temp sensor, but I hooked up the auto x-ray tonight. On one of the hard starts, it showed a coolant temp at startup of 170 degrees. Now I'm stumped. Once it fires, other than a persistant (although inconstant) code 36, and an ever so rare code 34, the car runs beautifully. I don't believe that the MAF codes are related to the hard starts, because most of the time no SES code pops up. I replaced the burnoff relay but it still pops the code 36 sometimes. The code 34 set today for the first time in 2 weeks. Like I said, I don't think they're related, but I figured I'd include it just incase somebody knows something I don't.

try the Fuel pump relay.
its the same one as the burn off and should be right next to it in the engine bay.

My 91 Formula 350 does the same thing a lot of times, except when it starts, it really starts, not the slow life chugging thing. But I can start it first thing in the morning after cranking it for just one revolution, but the rest of the day, even if it's been sitting, it takes forever to crank over. The only thing I was thinking was that it may be a vacuum leak somewhere, as my idle is a bit rough as well. But from what I can see, I have all vacuum lines connected, although I do have a leak in the climate controls somewhere. So, I'd like to hear more ideas on this one as well. Please???

Check the spark. It could be your ignition module. when my ignition module started going bad it took seemingly endless cranking to start it sometimes, and other times it would start right up. Two times my engine quit unexpectedly when i was driving. I knew it was an ignition problem and i popped a new ignition module in there and i haven't had the problem since.

I doubt it's the fuel pump relay because when I turn the key I hear the fuel pump run as normal.
The ignition module I didn't think of. I've got a spare ESC that I pulled off of my IROC. Maybe I'll put that in and see what happens. Or did you mean some other ignition part?
