2cycle SBC?
2cycle SBC?
I t would be possible wouldnt it? You would have to have a custom ground cam that turned at half engine RPM and a distributer gear that turned at twice normal speed along with a kick *** ignition system. What else would be needed, anything else that would need to be considered?

Uh, well...two cycles don't have cams or valves, least none of the ones I scattered have
Then you'd have an issue with sealing off the crankcase. I guess you could run some type of external oil pump and closed loop return for the mains, but not sure if you could do anything about the rod bearings without opening up (and weakening) the journals or undercutting the rods bigends (weakeniung too) to get the mixture to lube them..speaking of which all the 2-strokes I've had apart have roller bearings for the rods to catch the suspended mixture for lube....not sure if you could come up with something strong enough to handle the loads that would fit.
But, alas...after all my babbling I'm sure Vader will pop on here and tell us all about a 750cu-in 2cycle Mountain Motor

Some two-stroke cycle engines have an intake valve, but an exhaust side port. Some have an exhaust valve, but a pressurized crankcase and no intake valve (Detroit Diesel, for one).
You could convert to a two-stroke with both valves if you used a direct drive blower to pressurize the intake, a direct drive (1:1) camshaft, a custom ground cam with a ton of overlap and massive advanced timing, a lot more compression, no distributor modifications, and double the cooling system of a four-stroke engine.
You might want to add an oil cooler, better harmonic balancer, improved valve springs, huge exhaust, and an entirely different fuel management system to make it work. Mercury Marine has something like that, called an "outboard marine engine", and may be able to help you with the details.
The losses and inefficiencoes of the engine from having to evacuate the cylinder at the bottom of the power stroke then charge it before compression might not make the power gains as great as you might speculate, but it is certainly worth thinking about.

Vader has done his research, but if you use a carb, it may be able to handle it as long as it is almost twice as big as usual.
Fun thinkin isn't it,

If any of you own/ride dirtbikes/atvs that are two-stroke, you know that 2 stock is a ton different then 4 stroke. To get the most power from a 2 stroke the exhaust usally has to have an expantion chanber, look at the current dirtbike and you will notice that the pipe gets really big and then small agan, that is to help with backpressure and suck out gasses. Also the use reed cages intead of valves and a pressurized crankcase. Also all the bears are ball/needle, from the pistion pin to the countershaft(output shaft that the small sprocket runs on. All in all, i would say it would be very had to do and not the best idea but hey it sound kinds of cool.
