Plastic burning on exhaust manifolds!

Well,
I have an 86 IROC w/305 and one of the many black plastic coil thingys that hold wires in them got on top of my driver side exhaust manifold, well needless to say I got a melted piece about the size of a quarter of that plasitc stuff on it and it is burning everytime the engine hits above I'd say 160* degrees. Problem is I cant see it anymore, so where would it 'run to'?? Would I be able to get under the car and see it?? Or could an ignition wire going to one of the 8 plugs that is cut a little cause this burning smell?? I am asking only because It happened like a month ago and has NOT gone away and both happened at the same time!

PLEASE HELP IT IS annoying me ALOT!

I have had the same plastick melt on the headers, I don't smell anything that is burning. You said that one your plug wires has a cut in it. If read that right, you need to replace that wire as it is most likely causing your car to have a miss.

Would the cut plug cause the smell though?? (Just want to know?)

Chances are, whatever was burning, still is...

I had a wire burn on my headers, all I did was move it (and eventually reroute it) and it solved the problem.. i could smell the burning and caught it before it burned all the way through so I didn't need a new wire, and now it doesn't small anymore...

If you've burned a spark plug wire, then you need to replace it, if you've burned a normal wire or plastic stuff, as long as everything still works you should be ok... however if something craps out on you in the future, suspect that wire first... ?comprende?
