name that part

as it always works for me, i was replacing a little rubber coolant line from the firewall to the manifold and there was this little valve looking thing, connecting the two rubber coolant lines (on the passenger side) and one of the nipples on it broke. im not sure what it is, can anyone tell me what it is and how important it is? i know its probably just a dealer item which is really gonna suck. why is it all of these plastic parts get so fragile and break on me?

Yea they carry it. If you want a metal one instead of plastic (they do break easy) its available but not listed under that car... probably a 70's Chevy application of some sort, I cant remember what car in particular however.

What does that thing do anyways? I always wondered if that was supposed to be there or not.
