filter+water?

Heres my question, with my hood scoop now functional i want to get a K&N xstream air cleaner assembly, the one with the cleaner top plate. my dad says this is a bad idea because if it rains water will get into the filter, and then into the engine. now i think that the filter would catch it, and it would evaporate from there, but am i right? or should i just go for a normal open element? and also, my hood is an LU5 hood with the flap thingies removed, cause i needed the extra clearance, anybody have any ideas on making these things a little more, not so open?

There's only so much water the filter could catch before it got into the engine.

Actually, once the air filter becomes waterlogged, no air will pass through it. The engine will choke and die.
