I know it sounds stupid, but what is the L69?
Its a 305 High Output. Rochester carburetor, same exhaust manifolds as L-98, huge Y-pipe, 190 hp,240 lb./ft. Available from 83 to 86, made for the first actually quick 3rd gens. I had one in my 84 Trans Am and the thing was absolutely indestructible. A helluva engine if you ask me.

Yep. He said it. In its, the L69 was the premier small block combination. 9.5:1 compression because of flat top pistons, and a much better exhaust system. A lot of people have gotten around 400 hp out of these engines.
When you put a 5 speed and 3.73 gears with posi behind it, it is a very nice set up.
Oh, it also has a better stock intake manifold. Just about the same thing as the Edelbrock performer series.

It's the carbed "HO" motor that was available from 83 to 87. In 83 for example, the LG4 was rated at 145 HP, the L69 at 190. IMHO the 190 was a bit conservative; my 83 had no trouble at all dusting the 305 TPIs, especially the automatics; and ran about even with the 350 TPIs up to about 110 mph.
It was discontinued due to the emissions and CAFE issues with carbs. Of course, nowadays there are far better injections available than TPI in power, fuel usage, and emissions; so the L69 isn't quite the player it used to be. But in its day, it was the king of the hill.
