car running hot after fan switch change...

alright, this morning i changed the fan switch on my 92 z28 because it had malfunctioned. afterwards, teh fan switch now works but when i get in the car and watch the temperature gauge it rises really fast (well faster then it should). i took it around the block for a test drive and before i got back the temperature read about 240 so i coasted into the driveway and shut it off real quick. now my question is what could be causing this?.. possibly faulty temperature sensor that would've gone bad between 9 and 9:30 this morning while i changed the switch. the car shouldnt run hot at all especially with both fans running air temperature of about 70 degrees and little humidity. coolant level is normal and there are no leaks to be found. thanks ahead of time for the help.

I have the same problem on a '86 2.8L Camaro. I rebuilt the top end and the temp lite comes on after 5 - 10 mins. I replaced 2 thermostats, temp switch, & checked the pump & readaitor. I'm going to take out the thermastat Friday & see what happens. Is this normal? I see alot people saying their cars get very hot...I did not drive this car before I rebuilt the top end.

i know teh cars usually run around 200-220 but above that is getting too hot. the problem with mine is that i never had a problem until this morning. im thinking the water pump may have gone bad though. the radiator seems to be flowing fine, just replaced the thermostat, temp sensor and fan switch/sensor have both been replaced so its basically down to the water pump.
