Timing and the ECM

Here goes

My timing was way off when I went to the track and I ran some down right crappy times. My L98 was running like a L03.

I reset it from way off the richter scale (im guessing it was like 10* BTDC)

Anyway I pulled it down some and kept having the same problem of no real bottom end power and sometimes the motor would die when shifting from park to reverse or neutral to drive, etc.

Now it is set at 2* BTDC and seems alright. It was set last night. I have driven it around some last night and tonight, and tonight it actually feels a "little" better than the night before.

Is this the ECM relearning what the timing is or am I imagining things or what?

Thanks,

Adam

Yeah the connector thing was unplugged when i set it.

Also the car has new wires and plugs, cap rotor and coil all about a month or two old.

Is there a way I can check the vacuum? Thats where I think the problem lies, is I am getting low engine vacuum. What causes that?

goto auto zone and pick up a vacumme guage. only 19.99. then hook it up to a vaccume line, i usualy use the Fuel pressure vaccum hose. as far as the causes, there can be many, broken or unconnected vaccum hoses. intake manifold leak.
