Timing question
I am going to be following this write up in a day or so and had a question about it
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/hei.shtml
When the writer talks about 'initial advance' he is talking about the timing marks on the front of my engine right? I unplug my vac advance and turn the distributer until I get 12* ? This was the only part I didnt understand 100% Thanks for any calrification

Yes 12* before any mechanical or vac advance. So if your setting your timing @ 1000RPM depending how your mechanical is set up you might need to drop it to 600RPM. I have no vac advance but my mechanical comes in around 800-900RPM.

Last time I set it I had a guy on the brake and had it in drive idleing at 500, The sticker on my hood listed the RPM at 500 and the car in drive to set it. Should I have the car in park when I advance it up to 12* ?
This is my plan
1. disconnect vac advance
2. have a guy on brakes and put it in drive
3. set idle at 550 with idle screw on carb
4. move dizzy until Im at 12*
Does this look right?
