update on my code 15/new problem

Well after i checked and rechecked the codes, used a jumper wire between the black and yellow wire on the cts, i came to the conclusion that the yellow wire had an open circuit, since i got a code 15 after all of my hard work. anyways, i checked the wire and didnt see a sign of trouble; the wire was straight and had no problems. this leads me to believe my computer is to blame. is there any way to check if a computer is good or failing? if it turns out i need a replacement, how should i go about getting one? would i be able to use a computer out of a stock 87 z28? my registration is past due and i will never pass smog at this rate.....thanks

Twink,

Before you condemn the ECM, check the connections at the ECM first. The connectors have likely been hanging in the ends of the ECM for almost 15 years, just working on relaxing as much as possible. The connections can become oxidized, loose, dirty, and just plain ineffective. The signal levels from some of the sensors are so small that only a very little resistance at one of these connections can really wreak havoc.

Remove the lower right footwell trim and dash trim panel. Unbolt and lower the ECM assembly. Remove each of the card edge connectors at the ECM. Clean the connections at both the ECM exposed card edges and the connectors - DO NOT use any abrasives, such as a ScotchBrites or sandpaper. An eraser pen works well for polishing these card connections.

When the connections are cleaner, firmly reseat the connectors to the ECM card. You might want to remove and reseat them more than once to get the maximum wiping action of the individual card edge connections.

I'm guessing that many times a replacement ECM cures some problems (at least temporarily) simply because the connectors are removed from the "bad" unit and plugged back on to the "good" unit. Simply cleaning and re-seating the connectors would possibly have solved the same probles, all with a presumed "bad" ECM.
