Running rich....please guide me to a fix

Hello all...own a 89 (not 88..sorry) 350 TPI...starts up fine..idles fine..no codes present or stored currently...as she warms up...dark colored smoke..even has a slight bluish tint to it starts to flow out exhaust..my eyes start to burn..and the smell of "RICH" is all I can smell.looking for help in a diag sequence to solve this problem,The O2 is 6 months old..I R&R'd it for regular maintenance..she has been running fine up to now untill this rich issue.I want to know from you people ...before I dig myself a diag holeI can't get out of.

valve seals will cause a puff of smoke on start up.

Hey guys..thanks for getting back to me.

Well I found the problem, but its not the valve seals, they are new.A bad MAF "power" relay, kinda wierd seeing how it didn't set a code.Must have caught it early enough I guess. So I found out that a bad MAF power relay would cause a massive rich condition..so I checked to see if the power relay was energizing...NADA....the burn-off relay was working, but I replaced both instead.Car runs great now..no stinkin ..eye burning..rich running issue. I do have one more question if you people have the time.

I have installed a Lunati cam.. 0.469int 0.489ex

206int 215ex @ 0.50 now the cam card tells me that if cam is installed @ TDC...the cam will be 4' advanced. Now my vehicle runs awesome,I have set the initial timeing @ 8' on the balancer which I'm wondering if thats too much seeing how the cam is already 4' installed straight up(TDC)which would make a grand total of 12'..is this correct???? I mean..am I makeing sense here??.What would you guys set the timeing in this situation.

Thanks again guys

Brent

I run my base timeing at 14* Im not an expert and if Im wrong someone will point it out, but as long as you dont have knock at 12* you will be ok. My friend has a 71 camaro and runs his base at 16*
