Does anyone make shorty spark plugs for aluminum heads?

I can't seem to find any header (shorty) plugs for aluminum heads. Does anyone have a part#? I am having "issues" with my Edelbrock RPM's and my SLP 1 3/4 headers

Bosch Platinums are shorter than average.

I don't think they are short enough. I am using RapidFires. How much shorter are Bosch's?

Accel makes shorty plugs for engines with headers. Give them a call. Their number is on their web site.

Accel does not make the shorty plugs for aluminum heads. I have 1 3/4" SLP headers so I am having some problems. The plugs in #6,7,and 8 touch the headers.

I was looking about 6 months ago, couldnt find squat. The shortest are apparently the NGK's and Bosch plugs, although I have not sat down and measured to see if they are shorter than the AC plugs or not.

Are these angle, or straight plug heads? Just wondering for future reference....

They are angle plug heads. I think i'm screwed. I'm going to need a shorty plug and dimple the header but even shorty plugs only give you about .25" extra to work with.

Keep heatin' 'n hammerin' and I think you'll be alright.

Would have been a good time to choose 1 5/8 headers, I guess.

Well I don't remember seeing too many other people having that many problems with the SLP headers so maybe give SLP a call and see what they say..... They might have an idea or two for ya..... Worth a try anyway....

Are you talking about R&R the plugs or once the plugs are installed the boots won't clear the headers?

My buddy has had Aluminum L98 heads and then just installed AFR 195s - both angle head and both with his SLP 1 3/4" headers.

To R&R the plugs, he had to make a spark plug tool by grinding both ends of a spark plug socket to clear the headers to tighten and loosen, with a box end wrench at the end.

I had to make a similar socket for R&R'ing my spark plugs on my stock L98 heads with Edelbrock TES headers. I use a ratcheting box-end that goes on the end of the cut-down spark plug socket.

Once the plugs are installed, there is no problem with the boots burning on my buddy's or my car. We both use MSD Superconductor 90* plug wires.

Unfortunately nobody makes a shorty style gasketed type plug. I went through this mess earlier this year with SLP headers and my angle plug AFR's. I ended up getting a set of Hooker S/C's full length headers to make those heads work. Oh well, it's only money right

On the first page of the January 2002 Chevy High Performance they have an ad from Jacobs Electronics which displays a set of porcelain ended spark plug wires, with rubber only at the the portion that touches the spark plug. The majority of the boot seems to be porcelain! Sounds like it may be an answer to your problem.

I might be able to get this to work using a combination of short plugs, dimpling the headers and ceramic boot jackets. Overall I need to come up with about 1" of clearance. Is it possible to double up the header gaskets to move the header off the block more? Just in case, does anyone want to trade a set of 1 3/4" SLP headers for a set of 1 5/8"s? They're new

Those Jacobs wires are $200 for a set but they might do the trick

I need shorty plugs too. My Accel short plugs cleared but they dont have a .75 reach, .046 is the biggest. Thats why my car is running horrible. Other plugs touch my headers. Will the DEI boot covers stand up to header heat if they are touching the header?
