Just unplug your power wire on the fan. Then take some spare wire and run it straight from the battery terminals to the plug on the fan. If the fan doesn't start, then your fan is bad. If it starts then it is probably the temp sensor. You may also want to check all the wiring just to make sure nothing is lose, especially a ground wire.

i wouldn't think so, if u reverse the polarity then it would probably just make the fan go the other direction

No it doesn't matter, the third response is correct if you hook it up backward it will just spin the opposite direction.

I just went through this senario Sunday. This is how it works...the fan doesn't come on till about 230* on V6's, so it may be Ok . This is how to check out the whole system. You jump out the fan first by putting 12v on the black/red wire on your fan. If that works, next there is a small round switch (w/1 wire Grn/wht)on the pass. side head towards the back (hard to get to), squeeze the connector and ground the switch, that will turn on the fan relay and the fan on. If that works the only thing left is a bad (weak) fan relay switch (the one you disconnected) or there is nothing wrong, your not waiting long enough.
Hope this helps...
