1974 350 motor
I'm looking into buying a 1974 350 out of a truck. I know it is a 4-bolt main and that I could get it for cheap. It runs good and has 22k miles on it. Will this bolt up to my 86 T-5 tranny? Also, what kind of horsepower and torque would that motor be putting out? Thanks.

Codename 47,
My son and I installed a '74 350 4-bolt truck motor into his '82 Z-28. We used the TH700 and it bolted right up (so did everything else). I believe the T-5 will do the same. You will need headers since the Dip Stick is most likely going to be on the Driver's side. Your stock exhaust manifold has no provision for the dip stick.
As far as horsepower is concerned the "Stock" 74 350's (casting #3970010) had somewhere between 185hp (Low Power) to 370hp (High Power). I think all the trucks were 185. The Vette was the 370hp.
We installed a relatively mild Comp Cam, Headers, Aluminum GM (stock Z-28) intake, and few other small items. Some of the guys on TGO guessed for us and said we probably have 300hp. I think that's a little generous since we really didn't do too much. My semi-educated guess is about 250+, we're gonna put it on a dyno one day soon.
Sincerely
Kurt
