Valve seal/inner valve spring ?

I just started replacing valve springs and seals on my heads and I have a question about a clearance issue. The seals are the Viton rubber positive stop type and the springs are Comp cams 987's. The inner valve spring seems to be very tight against the seal and I was wondering if that would be a problem? The seals are the right fit for the guide and stem diameters so I don't think that is a problem. I really have to force the spring over the seal to get it on. I don't know if that would be a problem or not, so hopefully some folks with experience can help me out.

Thanks

Sounds like you need seals with a narrower O.D. to clear your springs.

Yea, I guess that's kinda what I thought. Thanks guys. Well I guess the next question would be for the people that have used 987's. Which positive stop seal did you use?

I used Comp 503 seals with my 987s.

I've got a box of K-Line seals that I use on most everything. I can send you a set if you want.

Thanks guys, I used the 503's and they all fit fine. Except....I kinda broke one,

Does anyone have one extra 503 laying around they don't need? I feel like a moron. I'll probably end up buying another pack, oh well.

Order a Comp 503 for a single seal instead of 503-16 for a whole package of 16.
