Heater question

I have a 1992 Firebird 305 TBI and for some reason the heater doesnt work. Also for some reason after a rainstorm the underpart of my dash is wet leaking onto my passenger floor. I cannot find a visible place where the leak is coming from, I realize this is very vague but I need some help.

Is it anti-freeze smell or rain water smell? Could be the same problem, could be completely un-related.

In anycase, proper flow to the heater core needs to be established (if it isn't coolant smelling). Make sure theres warm fluid to the heater core, past the diverter valve. HC could also be blocked. Try flushing it.

This is most likely the same problem as many people have. My first and most likely best recommendation is to change the heater control/diverter valve. I'd bet this is your problem. It's easy to find, look like a mushroom with 2 or 3 hoses coming out of it, on the passenger side of the engine, up top. It's most likely frozen shut. 15 bucks and you're good to go most likely. As for the leak, prolly the same as my other problem. A firewall/cowl leak somewhere. Prolly a bad seal around some opening/cable hole/something in there. I'm gonna have a looksee on mine this weekend on the drivers side.

check the firewall panel under your windshield. there is sealant there that could be all dried up and cracked and now has holes in it. probably need to clean that all out and put new sealant in there.
