Tranny Lock Up!!

Tranny Lock Up!!
Non-Thirdgen. 92 Grand Prix, Auto.
Car sounded like there was something stuck underneath the car....we were on the interstate, doing about 80. Immediately started to pull over, going about 60 now, sounded like a flat tire, going about 40 now sounds like 2 flat tires, going about 20, sounds like we're running no the rims...on the median, going about 10, siezes up.
Ran perfectly all day, no signs of wear and tear. Fresh tranny fluid...great gas milage, good performance.
Even in neutral the car won't roll.
I know that it locked up, but any ideas on why?
Cost to repair?
