is it rebuildable??
i have a 85' t/a with a 305 and the power steering pump is getting worse and worse everyday, i have to refill it everytime i drive it and it's getting really annoying...... my question is can i rebuild the old pump or do i have to buy a new one or a remanufactered one........ and if so, which way would be cheeper?? thanks........
one more thing.... when i remove the pump, when i drive my car in the mean time that the pump is off, do i have to plug any holes or any of the hoses and if so with what?? thanks......

Power steering systems are closed systems. So the fluid is going somewhere. Rebuilding your pump probably won't solve anything.
I'd find where it's leaking. Look around the hose ends and the pitman arm seal.

The floor is definately not a part of the power steering system, lol. You prolly could rebuild it, if it's leaking from the pump. If it doesn't sound like it's whining when full, most likely a rebuild kit with new gaskets should work. Check your 2 hoses though, those could be the culprit. I will say that I rebuilt my PS pump on my 79 TA and did a miserable job of it. It leaked as bad as is did before, from the pump. So, if you do rebuild instead of replace, make sure you read all the instructions and do what is recommended. If it is definately the pump, I'd HIGHLY recommend replacing both hoses anyway and if there is ANY fluid around the top cover plate on the steering gear box, replace that top gasket as well. Rebuild kits are generally cheap, the one for my 79 was like 16 bucks. The hoses will be more expensive and I'm not sure how to get the other gasket. Maybe cut one yourself if it's not easily available.

Find out exactly where the power steering is leaking from (a hose, a crack in the steering box, etc)
Then replace as neccessary. One from a junkyard will work if you are on a tight budget.

It could be the reservoir. It's just a stamped steel thing, with a big o-ring that is supposed to seal it to the pump housing.
Could also be the fitting nuts that do the same thing on the back of the reservoir.
The reservoir has been known to crack, too.
