driveshaft fell out

i was goin for a test drive to school and the car was running fine. I got up the hill and i stopped for the sign. I took off and i heard a funny noise a bang bang then i couldnt accelerate anymore. i looked outside and i saw my driveshaft layin there. i shut it off and got my driveshaft. when i got home i looked under the car and i saw that the clamps that hold the driveshaft to the rear end snapped. i wasnt goin fast with the car but it had alot of torque. is there anything i can do so this wont happen again. thanx

That almost never happens. The clamps were probably loose and snapped from fatique. Try replacing the U-Joints and using new clamps. You shouldn't have a problem then.

You are so lucky! I've never seen that happen, except during a violent wheels-up launch, and then it usually rips a hole in the floor and destroys the rear, trans or both in the process!I can't see it happening again, at least not like that!
Just replace the clamps and keep an eye on 'em for a while.

Lol it could be worse. Imagine the yoke falling out and dropping the front of the driveshaft on the freeway...POLE VAULT!

ditto, get new u-joint and clamps. shold be a very long swap. I can install a new driveshaft in about 5 minutes, it's just 4 bolts.
