I know there's a way to figure out the firing order of a motor, besides looking on the intake, and getting a manual for the car. Actually, what I need to know is what plug goes on which plug on the distributor, from which cylinder. It's a 1973 Buick 455 motor, and it doesn't have the original intake. Some one please help!

uhm... why would the intake change the fireing order of the plugs? Just go to buick and ask them.. I'm sure they would have records on there computer or something

It doesn't. He's referring to the fact that his replacement manifold doesn't have the firing order cast into it like the original one did.

 

Buick uses the same firing order as other GM V8s... 18436572.... I don't recall offhand which way the distributor turns though

Firing order is 18436572. #1 on the distributor can be anywhere you want it depending on how the distributor was installed and as long as all the wires will reach. The buick puts the #1 wire at the right front of the distributor across from the #2 cylinder and the distributor rotates clockwise.

#1 cylinder is the one that is ahead the most. Like the Chev engine, buick has it on the left bank (driver side).
