Thinking of installing an open element air filter onto my LO3 TBI
Basically I have been contemplating on this idea for awhile now, and the mod isnt that expensive either, its about 30 bucks for the whole set.
I saw it at pep boys Edelbrock Pro Flo air filter, I was just wondering if this is something I should be getting...
About how much hp do these things give you? And what purpose does it serve? Will my car run better and faster?
I spoke to a few colleagues of mine who did this mod and they claim it adds up to about 15hp which isnt bad for an essentially cheap mod.

Check out the stickies on the TBI board for more info concerning this mod. It is easy and many people love the results. There are however a few negatives.

I have an Open Element just like the one your getting and i love it. As soon as i put it on i went for a test drive and WOW!!! You can reach higher RPM than with the stock setup. I say it get about 10-15 hp.
this is what aggravates me sometimes, some people love some mods and other people completely swear against them... I just read 5 threads saying this air cleaner is worse then anything else out there, then i read this one saying how you love it.. People have to stop exazzgerating the positives and negitives......

I saw ZERO HP increase when I put on a 14" open filter, but it sure sounds a lot better. Bumping up the timing a few degrees, custom exhaust Y-pipe and doing the fuel pressure increase modification helped more than anything.
