thread stripped, machine shop said it isnt straight?

well i brought my cylinder head to the machine shop, since i had a leak from the intake and it was from a stripped thread on the head, and i got a message saying that the hole wasnt straight so he wasnt sure if he should heli coil it

what should i do here, is there a way to fix it?

aluminum? i'd weld it then redrill and tap. iron i tihnk i might make a threaded plug to put in the hole so i could have a good surface to start with and redill it, if it needs to go over size to straighten it up i'd use a thread insert.

the head is aluminum, and is at the machine shop right now, i was just wondering what could be done, and if it would expensive, because i dont have tools to weld and drill.

Iron or aluminum, it is a simple fix for a machine shop. More involved possibly, than a helicoil, but fixable either way. If they are unsure of what to do, pull the head out of there and go elsewhere.

no i guess they said it was an easy fix, i just wanted to make sure i wasnt going to pay an arm and a leg for it to be fixed.

A helicoil installed is worth 15-20 bucks. If they weld and redrill the hole, you are looking at 1/2 hr labor. Either way $50 should cover it.

that sounds about right, he said 18$CAD for a helicoil, then told me that hole wasnt straight, so it was gonna be a little more work then i had told him in the first place.

thanks for the help guys
