What's the deal with...

I'm always hearing 3rd gen owners talk about parking their car during the winter. What is the deal with this? I mean do these cars not perform well when it's cold or what?

Why put a car you love through harsh winter road conditions if you don't have to?

My car flat out sucks in winter. Unfortunately, it is the only car I currently own, so I have no choice but to drive it.

Traction in adverse weather is horrible. Even with Posi....

The brake system is not balanced very well, step on the brakes in slippery conditions, and the front wheels lock, and the back wheels keep rolling, pushing thru that stop sign....... Less of an issue on the 89 and newer models.

It is not a real good winter driver. Heater works good though.

Put it in neutral while you brake.

Studded snows all the way around for this year-round daily driver.

Slipping the shifter into neutral when stopping is a common occurance here.

Now, the '57, on the other hand, works great in the snow. Well, it used to, anyway...

Hankook (is that how you spell it?) makes some snows that do better on ice than Blizzaks (is that how you spell that?). A lot cheaper and longer lasting, too. That's what I have on the front (with studs, though), and they drive nicely as well.

If you can't enjoy the performance of a sports car then there's really no point of having it on the road. It's dangerous to drive and you can get stranded easily, might as well just take it off the road. Also, alot of people put money into paint which is going to wear faster in the snow/salt when you can't even enjoy to nice finish.

A set of snow tires and about 100 extra pounds in the hatch and a 3rd gen is no problem in the snow. It's the salt that takes a toll on them. Oil spray the hell out of the car every year helps a lot if you want to drive it thru the winter in the rust belt.

One or two winters in northern MI. take the toll really fast.

I once had a very mint 78 camaro and being 18 I wanted to be cool and not drive an old beater in the winter. After two winters, my camaro became the old beater. I washed it, and oiled it and did all that, but didn't stop it from rusting.

So, basically since I live in GA where there's no snow or anything, I'm pretty much safe with the way my third gen perform and exterior damage?

Not much point in parking your car over winter if you don't actually get winter.

where abouts? I'm from n. mi.

The reason these cars suck in the winter is the tires most people run, you don't hear the guys with snow tires complaining about handling or braking issues. I will say the low ground clearance could make some cars good snow plows, and no one wants to see their baby rusting away from all the salt/ moisture/ freezing/ thawing that winter brings.
