How to get a 454/502 BBC to pass emissions?

No kidding. Is this physically/stoichemically possible, using dual cats., air pump, a minimizing the carb size or using a EFI ramjet 502 for a BBC application in a IROC?

If they open the hood, forget it.

Otherwise, you can probably get it to pass sniffer if you do things along the line of what you say.

It depends if they are measureing parts per million or grams per mile. If it's ppm then you have a shot. If it's grams per mile I wouldn't be very optomistic. If you lean it out too much to get HC and CO down your NOx will get too high. You could lower compression and lean the enine out and that could possibly pass emissions with a really tiny carb on it. The whole goal is to get the mixture to burn completely, but cool and slow.

Also you can dump a couple gallons of alcohol in with a full tank of gas...it burns much cleaner.

I understand the whole engine size thing, but my brother has a f*rd 302, and he bombed emissions cuz his third cat was hollowed out. . . so the next week he turned his timing WAAAAY down, and put as much restriction on the intake as he could and he passed with flying colors. . we are from CT where they do parts per million. . it is worth a try

As long as the air fuel mixture is burning properly, any size engine can pass an emissions test.

Retard the timing a bit will help. Also put in a 195 thermostat to make it run hotter. A hot engine will have lower emissions.

A good tune up with new plugs etc should also be done.

The air pump only lowers emissions when the engine is warming up by pumping clean air into the exhaust. After the engine is warm, the air pump is just extra baggage.

Assuming constant chamber size, would alum heads help with emissions?

Depending upon your state, you may be able to do like I did and register your car as a special interest vehicle. In my case it is a permanent registration and I am emissions equipment exempt.

An EFI 502 like the ram jet with cats smog pump and in good tune will pass fine.

Are there any limitations to registering as a special interest vehicle (i.e.: annual mileage limit, etc.)?

Here in Oregon the driving limitation for special interest plates is that the vehicle only be used for shows, parades, club activities, and such. No mileage requirement. Also here the car must be 25 years old or certified as a special interest vehicle by an approved agent. I am sure that every state is different, and some states may not even have a program like this. But I do like the fact that it allows me to do basically any modification to my car that I want, and still be totally legal.
