Does anyone know anything about...

...an M/C solenoid? The check engine light came on last night and when I got home, I pulled the code and I got a 23 and a 45. I know what the 45 is, but I'm lost on the 23. (See sig) It's an M/C solenoid, but I have no idea what that is. Could someone please enlighten me? Thanks

In a computer controlled carb, there is a solenoid that cycles to provide the proper mixture ratio. The computer changes the cycling "dwell" time to modify the enrichment with varying engine speed/load conditions.

So, can you tell me where on the carb can I find the solenoid? Is it something I can change myself? Thanks for your reply!

In the carb, actually. The two-wire connector on the front passenger corner of the carb goes to the MCS, which requires removal of the airhorn to replace.

Check here for a picture of the part http://www.carbs.net/quadrajet.asp (# R-4MCS1), and here for an expanded diagram of the carb http://www.carbs.net/Quads/E4MC.htm (#221 - picture points to a screw, but it's a screw for the solenoid).

Thanks for the help. I already knew it was time for a carb rebuild, but this pretty much means right now, I guess!
