Intake gasket help

I just cleaned up my stock intake and painted it and am ready to bolt it on the 89 305 TBI. I am using the MS93317 Fel-Pro gasket but do I need to use the 4 water block off plates like the original one's had? What is the purpose and what would happen if I didnt use them.

Would a set of 1205 gaskets work?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!
Mike

Four water block off plates? I could understand one, at the left rear corner, but not four. Are you certain two of them aren't EGR passage restrictors?

If you didn't use them, the coolant would be able to flow another 0.030" and make the intake wet - at least the part that covers the unused water passage in the RH head. If you do not have a coolant return line from the RH rear of intake, you might use another one there - or not. If you didn't, the intake would get wet on that side, too.

Are you sure those aren't block off plates for the exhaust crossover? Theres four because two go on each gasket... one on the inside, and one on the outside (of the gasket). One holds onto the other by little folding tabs in the middle.

When I took off the intake it had the metal plates that go over the water jackets...each had a small hole in it. They looked like the water restriction plates. I didnt have any on the heat crossover. The 305 has never been apart and had the steel gaskets on it...what a pita to remove.

Anyways, I put the 93317 gaskets on it and the rear water jackets are covered now...also have the small restriction hole in each....the 1205's I had were open in the front and rear. I have always owned the pre-86 engines and I wasnt sure of the 87 and up.

Thanks!
