coolant leak w/ TPI V8. . .
just found out that i have a coolant leak-
it looks like its leaking from above the hose that comes from the engine that connects to the radiator- what do u guys think it is a gasket leak or something??? how much do u think something like this costs to have fixed? ohh, also, from my exhaust pipes-there is a black residue on the ground-any idea what that is?!?!? and my service engine soon light is coming on-with good reason!!!! any advice is appreciated!

91,
One problem at a time.
#1. The coolant leak is probably the hose itself. Check the clamps, hose condition, and radiator neck (the solder or adhesive there can crack and leak);
#2. Your exhaust pipes will drip condensed water whenever the engine is started and the exhaust system is cold. Water in the air will condense in the exhaust system and slowly be driven out as the system warms up above the boiling point. Until the system is warm, it will drip, and any carbon coating the inside of the system will wash out and stain the ground where it falls;
#3. If your MIL lamp is on, get a note pad, a writing instrument, and a paper clip or jumper wire. Retrieve the codes following the instructions in the Tech Articles on this site. Decode the error number to determine the problem(s).
You can also get instructions and decoding data in this file:
